What A Chiropractic Adjustment Actually Looks Like | Chiropractor for Low Back Pain in Jackson, NJ
Hello everyone! Today, we’re continuing our series on lower back pain, focusing on a specific chiropractic adjustment for the lumbar spine. This type of treatment is crucial for addressing the stiffness and discomfort many experience in their lower back.
Understanding Lumbar Adjustments
The lumbar spine, consisting of five vertebrae stacked on top of each other, is designed for movement. However, issues arise when these joints become fixated or subluxated, meaning they don’t move as they should. This lack of movement can stress the joints and the nerves exiting the spine, leading to significant lower back pain.
Demonstrating a Side Posture Adjustment
To alleviate this, I perform what is known as a side posture adjustment. Let’s walk through this process:
- Patient Positioning: The patient, Christie, lies on her side. This positioning allows for targeted pressure and manipulation of the lumbar area.
- Adjustment Technique: With Christie on her side, I bend her top knee and keep her shoulders back. This alignment allows for a slight rotation in the hips and lower spine. I then apply a gentle but firm pressure to the lumbar region.
- The Adjustment: During the adjustment, you may hear a slight noise as the joints move. This sound indicates the successful unlocking of the joints, promoting better movement and relief from pain.
- Repeat on Both Sides: It’s essential to adjust both sides of the lumbar spine to ensure balanced movement and alignment.
The Goal of Lumbar Adjustments
The primary aim of this chiropractic technique is to restore healthy motion to the spine. By correcting misalignments and subluxations, we can significantly reduce pain and improve functionality in the lower back.
