Hi everybody.
Dr. Jodi Kinney, your chiropractor for headaches in Jackson Township, NJ.
Today I want to teach you how you can tell the difference between the four most common types of headaches that we see in our office.
Tension Headache Chiropractic Care | Jackson Township, NJ
So the first one. If you’re feeling like band-like pain around your head or you feel a lot of
stress coming from the neck into the back of the head.
That more than likely is called a tension headache and we treat tension headaches all day long.
Cause usually people are staring at their computers with their head shifted forward, and it makes the muscles in the head and the neck have to work a lot harder and it causes this pain, this tension pain in your head.
Migraine Headache Chiropractic Care | Jackson Township, NJ
The next most common type of headache that we see is called a migraine headache and that’s typically patients get throbbing, throbbing head or face pain.
It’s usually worse on one side of the head than another, maybe behind the eye.
Often there’s aura. Aura is where you might see little floaties or flashes of light.
You’re very sound sensitive, light sensitive.
Sometimes the nausea and vomiting is involved with a migraine headache.
And you just have to sit in a dark room to let it pass.
That’s a migraine headache and those can be debilitating, but chiropractic helps tremendously with migraine headaches.
Cluster Headache Chiropractic Care | Jackson Township, NJ
The lesser common kind of headaches that we see but often still see is called a cluster headache.
That’s usually more common in men than women and it’s like a stabbing knife-like pain
either behind the eye or on one side of the head.
The days cluster in a row that you get these debilitating headaches followed by a period of remission.
And that can happen a couple of times a year to patients who suffer with cluster headaches.
Sinus Headache Chiropractic Care | Jackson Township, NJ
And then the last common kind of headache that we see, it’s more seasonal, is what’s called a sinus or allergy headache.
That’s where you would feel more intense pressure or pain in your face, behind the eyes, above and below the eyes, maybe into the ears.
It’s usually accompanied by congestion or cold-like symptoms and is worse when you bend over. You feel this intense sort of pain in your head or your face.
So those are the most common ones that we treat. Chiropractic helps with all of those kinds of headaches.
So if you suffer with any of those, come in and see us.
I’m Dr. Jodi Kinney. Hope to see you soon.
